With over 900 miles of unpaved roads in Jackson County, the Road and Bridge department is busy everyday maintaining county roads. In late 2006 Avery Road paving was completed. Through Community Budget Requests Jackson County has asked the State of Florida to assist in this initiative to improve the roadway infrastructure of Jackson County. Currently Jackson County Road and Bridge crews are actively working to maintain and pave dirt roads. Resurfacing projects will continue throughout 2007 on roads such as Smokey Road and Gulf Power Road.
Jackson County has actively pursued grants for infrastructure improvements. Many roads throughout Jackson County have been identified for rehabilitation with funding coming from Community Development Block Grants. These roads include Caddy, Carpenter Cemetary, Lovewood, Clearmont, Kenya Trail, Bolivia, and Coastal as well.
